Anyone have a lead on getting good quality tambura strings here (America/Canada).

The strings are for European prim. The musician would like string on a spool.

Gracias,
Happy Cinco de Mayo!

This is a good topic.

Since strings from croatia or from France even are not readily available, it would be good to have info onstrings used abroad.

For me the best I have always used is Ernie Ball.
Awesome combination(if you can get the gauges you need) is with the Earthwood bronze.
There are some who don't like the bronze b/c they don't last as long as steel wound or nickel wound, but I say 'hell with that' the tone is very sweet right out of the box.

btw I also use GHS, decent strings but Ernie ball bronze wounds last much longer.

I use GHS Vintage Bronze Med.-gauge.

US strings are much better than Croatian strings because of consistency. US steel that is used on these strings are under higher scrutiny as far as the quality level, and the consistent steel is the main ingredient. I would suggest to find the string type that you like (Ernie Ball / GHS etc..) and stick with that style for consistency.

Used Black Diamond strings, they were great, lasted sounded good ,and best of all they were looped with no ball at the end. Been looking for them for a while, not available anymore in quantity may find 1 or 2 in small music stores

we've had problems with Kontra strings breaking very frequently, so we started using guitar strings. They were working fine, had 1 E string that was on there for about 6 months. They work well.

I sometimes buy strings from Milan Opacic, but lately I've been going to my local music store where I get a really good bargain.(Ithink the fact that I went to high school with the owner of the store probably helps!) I buy the Sweedish steel guitar strings in the individual gauges I need. Most music stores will sell single strings for $1.00 each in any gauge. The people in my band get theirs from Valentic, although I imagine you can obtain strings from any reputable tambura maker. I hope this helps you!

SRVT, who's the guy that made our strings? The ones we just bought in Brod? We paid like $140 Canadian (or less maybe) for 5 sets of basprim, 3 sets of prim, 2 bug and 2 bass (bass strings obviously representing 50% of the cost).

SRVT can clarify. Goran from Slavonske Lole got them for us. Since Lole is coming on tour with CFU this summer to both Canada and U.S., I'm sure he wouldn't mind packing them with him. If there's a big enough order, money could be sent to one person and then wired to string maker's bank account in Cro.

Sounds like a lot of trouble, but these strings are the real thing. Just order multiple sets for future use.

Clive, schedule is not yet 100% certain, however, they'll more than likely be in Mississauga/Toronto, London and maybe Windsor. Thi info should be available in the next month or so.

Hi guys,

The bottom line with any string is it's tensile strenght.Prim is a very demanding environment since the instrument is small and string tenssion is relatively high, close to five times higher then on a guitar in some cases.
I get all of my material for strings from a USA manufacturer, plain strings are cadmium coated and the wound one's are nickel wound.
I have tried several different materials over the last 15 years and this material is the very best in my oppinion, ask To Salopek and Patsy Lukas, they use my strings.
Happy playing
