Where can I get it?

Hi,
Answer depends on what tunes you are looking for. I have 39 books of Croatian & Serbian music plus many pounds of handwritten sheet music. I or others on this forum could probably supply you with copies for specific tunes. Sometimes vendors at festivals, such as the TAA Extravaganzas or SF Kolo Festival, sell music books. These websites have written music:

http://www.folkloretanznoten.de/kroatisch.html
http://www.folkloretanznoten.de/serbisch.html
www.eurotok.com/download/aranzmani/aranzmani.htm (http://www.eurotok.com/download/aranzmani/aranzmani.htm) (very few)

You can also post requests on this discussion list which is read by musicians & dancers from all over: www.eefc.org (http://www.eefc.org) (go to: http://www.eefc.org/site/?DiscussionList&PHPSESSID=587593f889f2939dbd9efc17ec37e02f) You have to register in order to post a request. You can read all past postings without registering, by going to http://archive.iecc.com/search.phtml/eefc and filling in the blanks in the search section.

Here are a few other possibilities:

If you want, I can post a list of the dances in Geisler's books that are from Croatia & Serbia. His transcriptions are handwritten in italics, which I don't care for, but the notes are all there (both melody & harmony plus the chords).

The contents of the Pinewood collection are shown on this page: http://www.pixton.org/musicbook/contents.html
and this one:
http://www.pixton.org/musicbook/page_graphics/contents.pdf
There may be too few tunes of the sort you are looking for to make the cost ($40 + $5 shipping) worthwhile.

Some free scores in pdf format are on this page:
http://www-linux.gsi.de/~karlson/Noten/noten.htm#Kroatien

This site does not contain written notes, but does include chords for Croatian folk songs: http://www.hr/darko/etf/akordi.html

here are two excellent sources for sheet music:

duquesne university tamburitzans - DUT (http://www.tamburitzans.duq.edu)

croatian fraternal union - CFU (http://www.croatianfraternalunion.org)

I searched the DUT site and found no mention of written music - only their CD's and videos. Does one have to write to them and ask about buying sheet music? Have you purchased any from them? What do they have available?

both the cfu and dut have large libraries of achieved sheet music. on those two links, you will find their contact info. they should be able to help you out. good luck!

Hi all tamburitzans:

Could any of you steer me to finding the following song:

"Svilen Konac" or po Engleskom "Silken Thread"

My old and sick cousin asked me to play this tune on my violin, but I can't seem to find the sheet music for it on any commercial source or any web site.

Hvala ljepa for any help

Bozidar,

What key do you want it in? What instrumentation?

Perica: Thanks for the quick response!!

A good key for the melody is G major in the high register - or in C major if it fits better. The instrumentation could be 2 treble lines accompanied with a regular piano score. Even a set of chord symbols below the melody would be fine.

Thanks for your kind efforts...

I like the key of G major with melody in the upper register - C major is also OK

Melody in one violin with piano score or Chords below the melody.

You must have good computer music software to do this

Hvala ljepa za tvoj pomoc

Bozidar

PS I'm new to this web site and still stumbling around.

Bozidar,

I'm old school. I'll write it out by hand.
