JoeLeno Chicago Update - 3/29/02
I would like to show the TamburaLand community how the Tamburas
lifestyle is in
Chicago. Below you see a pic of a weekend gathering of Chicago (1
Milvaki
bassman)Tamburasi. Actually it was supposed to be a practice for
the pickup
band "Midwest Tamburasi". The practice turned into a big
Jam session, which
eventually turned into a party that lasted til 5am. Joekirinaround
was not a
happy Tamburs in the jutro.
Anyway, these type of weekends occur quite often in the Windy City
and can be
arranged for visitor Tamburasi at a few days notice. The Chicago
Tamburasi hope
to acquire a new Bass player in late May or Early June...more details
soon. Oh
yea, the pic is not hazy due to scanning errors, it's SMOKE and
most of the
Tambursi in the pic do not normally look like that...drinkali su
puno.

JoeLeno Update - 3/21/02
Jerry Grcevich visit's Chicago. This past weekend the Tamburasi
in Chicago had the pleasure of hanging out with the world famous
Tamburas, Gosp. Jerry Grcevich.
Jerry performed at the Hot House last Thursday with Tamburica Rroma
& Goran Ivanisevic (no pics available. sorry). For those of
you who missed the show, you missed an incredible performance by
Jerry and the rest of the musicians. Maybe Joekirinaround has audio
that he could post for Tamburaland?
To take a break, Jerry decided he would cook dinner for the Tamburasi
(at my house). And dear friends, let me tell you that there isn't
a better way to spend an evening with Jerry, than with some of his
exquisite Chicken Paprikas. Wow was that great (with Vino De Grlica
even better)! See pic below. While cooking Paprikas, Jerry decided
to call Zagreb from an air phone -- sve je ok u Zagrebu. See pic
2.

To finish off his Chicago stop, Jerry played at Plava Laguna Cafe
one last time (Saturday night, but also played Friday), with Joe
Kirin, Toni Polakovic and Dani Gitarista(I think he is the Curious
Tamburas). See pic below.

It was nice to hear Gosp. Grcevich play again, and all of us in
Chicago await his return. Thanks Jerry.

As promised, here are a few more pics from Valentines Day in Milvaki
featuring "Midwest Tamburasi".

The best way to sell cd's is to actually point to them while
singing "Otvor zenu kapiju"

Midwest guys in action. Actually, besides the guys on stage,
there were about 50 more people in attendance. The turnout was not
all that great, but as all Tamburasi know, you have to play for
1 person like you would 100 (at least that's how I think).

Have
no fear fellow Tamburasi, I JoeLeno will vow to protect the
secrets and the way of the Tamburas. I will defeat our arch
enemy and his fellow accomplices, and we will once again be
able to play any gig, with anyone we want, from any zip code
we want. The life we once knew before the Curious Tamburas will
once again return. When ever and where ever you need help, just
email the Commissioner "Velko Delmar" and he will
shoot the Leno Call in the Sky. |
Midwest Tamburasi Update from Valentinovo Gig
A few weeks ago "Midwest Tamburasi" played for Valentinovo
in Milvaki
(Sacred Heart Church). This is the first pic in a series of 4 or
5 that
shows them in action, during practice and at the Gig. More pics
will be
posted next week.

cigan
medley.

"Novo Sunce" from Chicago release Hit Single
Old band mates re-unite, as they release a hit single "To
Je Moja Piva"
(That's by beer). The band was inspired to write this hit single
while
they had practice (years ago..), and had an argument on who was
going to
drink the last beer. The picture on the CD was the actual argument
that
took place between the 2 Joe's, regarding who was going to take
that
last beer. You can see Joe Grlica (Kontra) giving the Evil Eye to
Joe
Francis (Bass) over the last beer. After the brawl was over, the
Fiddle
Playing Monster 'Suco Dreher' and See My Finger Fly 'Joe Riccio'
came up
with the Idea of writing "To Je Moja Piva".
To celebrate the release of their hit single, Novo Sunce is hoping
to
get a spot on the Boduli Tour (starting March 2nd in Pittsburgh)
as the
opening act. More Info regarding the tour will be posted on
www.boduli.com.
Congrats to "Novo Sunce" on all their success - TAC (Tamburasi
Association of Chicago).

Hunters Dinner Review
Reported by JoeLeno reporters: JoeLeno & Brajon
According to various sources, the Hunters Dinner this past Saturday
(2/2/02) was somewhat of a disappointment. The Lovacko Drustvo "Kuna"
Hunters dinner was held at St. Jerome's Church - 31st and Princeton.
6:15pm --
As Oluja finishes setting up sound, the band proceeds to get a few
more
Beers (Heineken to be exact). As they order their drinks the bartender
says, "TTTrrriii Doallrs". The Tamburasi just look at
each other. They
pay the bartender and proceed to go rag out Joe Grlica for having
to pay
for Drinks. Yes, pay for their drinks! Have you ever heard of such
Krap. They were allowed 1 drink per person. Mr. Grlica then proceeds
to talk to the famous Kum Gavran & Zvonko Grlica about this
disgusting
matter. In a matter of moments, Grlica returns back the Tambuasi
and
says, "Don't worry about it, Drink all you want". It turns
out that a
few years back, a Chicago band by the name of B#%*#$ racked up a
$900
bar tab. Yes, $900! That's a butt load of Konjak. So, how did Oluja
get to drink for free?? Word is that Mr. Grlica (Zvonko) made a
bet
with the President of the Klub, that if he can beat shit out of
him,
that Oluja will drink for free. Oluja did drink for free, so I guess
Mr. Grlica won the brawl.
8:00pm --
Hercegovac with long hair requests "Hercegovici Evo Noci Evo
Dana" - 7
times, and Joe Grlica almost breaks his Kontra over his head.
8:01pm --
Joe Grlica gets ragged out by some old man, that "vaj you not
playing
malo Dalmatinske". I guess he was in the pisser when Oluja
played a
15minute Festa Set.
8:15pm --
Oluja plays a nice Kolo set -- "Mizerlu", "Oprosti".
The only dancers
are a bunch of 4 yr. olds running in circles.
12:00am --
Oluja packs up CroJoe Mobile (Joe Francis Truck) and burns rubber
back
to Midway.
